Brahms: A German Requiem

  • Stern Auditorium, Carnegie Hall 881 7th Avenue New York, NY, 10019 United States (map)

Hear Johannes Brahms’ beloved A German Requiem as you have never heard it before.

Based on the research of an international team of Brahms scholars, this new critical edition restores the composer's original intent for each movement, 150 years after the premiere of A German Requiem in its final, seven-movement version. The resulting Requiem shines with a never-before-experienced light and clarity.

The Oratorio Society of New York is proud to perform the U.S. premiere of this version, just as it performed the U.S. premiere of the original in 1877.

Soprano Susanna Phillips and baritone Takaoki Onishi join the chorus and the orchestra of the Society.
